The ‘Keep Coming Back’ Projects
For many years local authorities and housing associations have been providing homes to vulnerable people. Today, private landlords are becoming more aware and sympathetic to the needs of the vulnerable. The security of a new home is a wonderful starting place for a new life; however a completely empty home can be a very daunting and scary prospect, massive cut-backs have meant that grants and loans from the Social Fund have been greatly reduced or for some no longer available.
‘Keep Coming Back’ is a relatively new organisation, our initial goal and primary aim is to provide recycled and restored basic furniture to vulnerable adults and families in the Bournemouth area, while at the same time providing support with moving and settling into a new home. To date, furniture and household items have been supplied, at a greatly subsidised price, to people for example: as those leaving long term Treatment following years of addiction, treatment for mental health problems, families fleeing abusive relationships, the disadvantaged and the socially excluded.
The front shop of ‘Keep Coming Back’ at 181 Seabourne Rd, Southbourne sells reconditioned second hand and antique furniture and household items to the general public, most items of furniture can be personalised with paint effects and finishes to customers’ requirements, a house clearance and removal service are also available to anyone, donations of furniture are always welcome. The Team of ‘Keep Coming Back’ are all volunteers or Job Seekers on work experience programmes, with the Organisation they learn many skills and in effect are their own support group. Since day one Bournemouth Churches Housing Association has helped our organisation a great deal and worked closely with us.
‘Keep Coming Back’ truly believes in ‘Community’, with people in society helping each other, while primarily helping those with needs greater than most. We are always looking at new ways to support the Community as a whole and always welcome ideas and thoughts of new projects that will asist and improve our Local Community.
